Episode 95: Skookum

Skookum, Adjective: “Marked by excellent quality: First Rate”

This episode includes Frank Schultz, Nick Muche, and Johnny Klug. After the previous episode, we set aside some time to answer Johnny’s questions about getting started in bowhunting and archery in general. We also talk about the uniqueness of “deer camp” down in the midwest and northeast, and have a few thoughts about how wildlife organizations could better help Alaska.

Episode 83: Pete Buist

In this episode I’m very fortunate to sit down with retired Master Guide and wildland firefighter Pete Buist. Pete has been guiding, hunting, and trapping all over Alaska for decades, and it was very cool to get a taste of just some of his stories. I can’t wait to have Pete back on again, but for now, enjoy!

Episode 19: Cast and (hopefully) Blast

Hey Folks,

This episode is with Frank Schultz and I as we are returning from an initial trip WAY upriver to set black bear baits. Most of what we had to talk about however, was the phenomenal pike and sheefish fishing we had on our overnight trip. I think for both of us, it was some of the best freshwater fishing we’ve encountered. We caught over 100 pike, around 30 sheefish, and nothing under 30″. We talk pike fishing quite a bit, then veer off into a little bit about what Fairbanks is like and some of the unique people that live here. Enjoy!
